PHOENIX - Spirit Airlines' first flight out of Sky Harbor International Airport took off early Friday morning.
The airport announced in July it will offer daily nonstop flights to Dallas/Fort Worth out of Phoenix Sky Harbor Terminal 3, starting in October.
Additional service to Chicago O'Hare and Denver International Airport is expected to begin on Nov. 7.
With this move, Spirit Airlines discontinued operations at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
Overall, Spirit only accounted for 8 percent of passenger traffic at Mesa Gateway.
ABC15 talked to passengers who said they aren't yet sure how to feel about the change.
"Everybody is concerned about paying more," said passenger Lora Rivers. "When we fly Spirit, we were just taking little puddle jumps to Vegas. That's what we were looking for out of Gateway."
Friends Mary Johnson and Lois Briggs said they usually fly out of Mesa Gateway but will now fly out of Sky Harbor.
"The one thing about the Mesa airport is that from Sun City, it cost us nearly $80 just to get there," Briggs said. When you fly like we do, that's almost the cost of the entire ticket."
Airline officials have not said whether or not prices will rise due to the move.
