Speeding car hits and tips over ambulance transporting a patient Sunday morning

PHOENIX - A car traveling at nearly 70 mph southbound on 7th Street toward Broadway Road, crashed and hit an ambulance going eastbound, causing it to tip over around 2:30 a.m., according to Phoenix Police Lt. Ed DeCastro.

The ambulance was transporting a female patient at the time of crash. The sirens were not on because she was in stable condition.

As far as injuries, the three firefighters and patient inside of the ambulance were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital. They are doing OK and reportedly only suffered bruises.

As for the speeding car, one driver and two passengers were in the car at time of the crash.

The two passengers were shaken up, but refused medical treatment and were taken home separately. The driver, however, has a broken leg and was transported to the hospital.

Police are still investigating the accident and can't confirm if the driver was drunk at the time of the accident.

They say the accident comes down to one driver not following the rules of the road.

The intersection of 7th Street and Broadway Road have been reopened .
