Small Business Saturday: More local stores skip Black Friday, unleash sales on Saturday

PHOENIX - More local businesses are opting to skip Black Friday discounts and wait an extra day for "Small Business Saturday" to unleash their slashed prices.

"Everyone's up so early [on Black Friday] and they're going for appliances and TVs," said Andrea Evans, the owner of In The Pink Boutique in Phoenix. "By the time noon hits, they're done."

In The Pink Boutique dished out their big sales on Black Friday last year, but this year, Evans decided to take the risk and push back her main event to Saturday.

On Black Friday 2011, her store saw a sales increase of 20% compared to the prior year, according to the store's publicist.

This year, Evans is hoping for an even bigger gain.

American Express created Small Business Saturday in 2010 and has a list of many small businesses participating in the special sale on its website .
