PHOENIX - Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is on the mend after a fall apparently caused him to break his arm on Thursday.
Arpaio, 80, is in "excellent spirits" after he was treated at St. Joseph's Hospital, said MCSO Sgt. Brandon Jones.
The hospital staff told Arpaio he didn't need surgery, Jones said.
Arpaio tweeted the photo attached to this story, captioned: "My wife Ava is showing her love after my fall."
Arpaio was walking near the Wells Fargo building at 1st Avenue and Washington Street when he tripped over something on the sidewalk and fell, Jones said.
In one of two YouTube videos posted by Arpaio's office, the Sheriff said "I blame myself, I fell…I wouldn't recommend that situation to anybody."

In the second video he also said he never stops working, wherever he is at. That said, Arpaio is expected to return to work in a few days.
