PHOENIX - A deadly collision closed a portion of a Valley freeway for hours Sunday morning.
Arizona Department of Public Safety officials said two vehicles collided around 4:23 a.m. along State Route 51 near Bell Road after one of the vehicles was traveling in the wrong direction.
One person died as a result of the crash. The name of the victim has not been released.
The southbound lanes of State Route 51 were closed for over three hours. Traffic was forced off at the Bell Road exit, however, motorists could re-enter the freeway using the Bell Road entrance ramp.
The southbound lanes were reopened around 9:30 a.m.
