For kids in foster care, life is tough enough.

But, when one family found themselves dealing with tragedy just before the holidays, the folks at "Recycle Your Bicycle" were able to step in and bring a smile in the midst of sadness.

In the space of a week last year, Jennifer Brinar lost her father and her 12-year-old niece, Lexi.

Lexi was also best friend and cousin to Jennifer's adopted daughter Tavorie.

The devastating losses happened just before the holidays and made getting presents for Christmas an afterthought. Jennifer knew she had to do something for Tavorie, who was dealing with so much, so she reached out to "Recycle Your Bicycle."

The organization takes donated used bikes, fixes them up like new, and gives them away, free of charge, to kids in foster and adoptive homes.

"Here we had gone through a terrible time, and she was able to get on a bike and be a kid," said Jennifer. "So many things happen to them and this is an opportunity to be a child."

You can make miracles happen by helping "Recycle Your Bicycle" in three different ways. You can drop off your used bike at any valley Earnhardt Auto Center.  You can donate your time by helping fix up bikes. You can also donate money to help cover the expense for tools and parts.
