Pursuit ends with crash in north Phoenix

PHOENIX - Department of Public Safety officials say a driver who led officers on a high-speed chase suffered life threatening injuries after crashing his car in north Phoenix Friday night.

DPS spokesman Carrick Cook said the pursuit started around 9 p.m. on the northbound SR 51.

Cook said the driver was topping speeds of 100 miles per hour and lost control while exiting the freeway at 32nd Street.

Authorities said the driver was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled.

The driver has not been identified at this time.

Cook said DPS is handling the incident as a criminal investigation.
