PHOENIX - A power outage at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport caused major headaches for travelers Sunday afternoon.
Airport spokeswoman Heather Lissner said the outage struck around 3:30 p.m. Sunday and was confined to Terminal 3.
Preliminary information indicates the outage may have been caused by a blown transformer.
The outage affected escalators and baggage carousels and emergency lighting that illuminates walkways for passengers in the terminal.
Lissner said at least three outgoing American Airlines flights were delayed about 20 to 25 minutes.
Other incoming and outgoing flights were delayed, but Lissner did not know how many were affected.
Airlines that operate out of Terminal 3 are: American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Hawaiian, and Sun Country.
Airport officials tweeted around 5:30 p.m. that power had been restored, but it was still a good idea to continue to check your flight status and print boarding passes before coming to the airport.
