Things have not been so great for the political home team lately.

That sentiment hitting a new low as the Morning Consult revealing a poll that puts both Arizona senators in top spots around the nation for high disapproval ratings.

Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky takes number one, while Senator McCain takes second and Senator Flake got third.

After tumultuous town halls for Senator Flake and confusing statements from Senator McCain, residents tell ABC15 they really are not surprised.

"They get in there and they've been there awhile," said Arizona resident Patrick Treverro. "They get real comfortable and he [McCain] could use some fresh ideas."

Treverro said, he respected McCain very much for his service in the military. But, felt he needed to make some changes rather than 'going with the flow of things.'

It was sentiment shared by fellow resident Lena Morrissey.

"I would like to see... a younger, fresh... just some new blood," Morrissey said - hoping for both candidates to leave their spots.

Senator McCain just secured his spot for another term with last year's election. But, Senator Flake re-election bid is coming up.

His campaign manager, Josh Daniels, responded to our request for a statement by saying in an email, "We always knew we were going to have a tough race, and it's a little early to speculate, but our fundraising is going well and we've got a strong grassroots operation across the state. The rest will take care of itself."

We reached out for a response from Senator McCain and did not receive a response.
