Man in car pursued, shot in Phoenix, police say

Phoenix police are investigating after a man was found shot near 35th Avenue and Buckeye Road on Tuesday night.

Investigators said the 32-year-old victim was getting into a car near the Food City at 27th Avenue and Van Buren when a black SUV began following them.

A short time later, the victim was shot by someone in the black SUV near 27th Avenue and Adams. The victim was then driven to a Circle K at 35th Avenue and Buckeye Road, where police arrived shortly before 7 p.m.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to his hip, police said. No other injuries were reported.

No suspect information was immediately available, but police have not connected this shooting to the ongoing serial street shooter investigation.

Note: Phoenix police originally said the shooting involved a Lyft passenger. The driver operates with the ride-share company but the victim was not a customer at the of the incident.
