Police: Radioactive device stolen from PHX business

PHOENIX - Phoenix police said a local business had a piece of equipment containing radioactive material stolen on Wednesday.

Sgt. Steve Martos, of Phoenix police, said officers responded to a business near 34th Street and Broadway regarding a burglary.

The victim said unknown suspects entered the business, which has not been named, and took several items used in construction, according to the release.

Detectives said one of the items missing is a Soil Density Meter. Contained within the shell of the device is three types of radioactive material. If the shell is broken, those nearby could be exposed.

If anyone locates the device, do not go near or touch it. Instead, contact the Phoenix police and fire departments immediately.
