PHX PD: Shooting suspect on the loose

PHOENIX - A man who stopped to help a woman being attacked in Phoenix was shot in the neck by the suspect Wednesday night.

Police say the suspect is still on the loose.

Phoenix police Officer James Holmes said officers were called around 9:15 p.m. to investigate a shooting near 48th Street and Virginia Avenue.

When police arrived, they found a male and female suffering non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

They were both transported to local hospitals for treatment.

The incident reportedly started when the woman was walking through a greenbelt and the suspect approached her.

He displayed a firearm and demanded money and the woman's cell phone, Holmes said.

The woman then reportedly refused and try to move away from the suspect.

A struggle ensued, and the suspect shot the woman in the leg, Holmes said.

The male victim happened to be riding a bicycle in the area at the time and saw the woman hurt, Holmes said.

He said the male victim then approached the woman and was shot in the neck by the suspect.

The suspect then fled the scene southbound on 48th Street.
