PHOENIX - Authorities say a 24-year-old woman has died after being accidentally shot while giving her boyfriend a hug Tuesday.
Phoenix Police Department spokesman Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the accident happened around 11:45 a.m. near 87th Avenue and Camelback Road.
Thompson said the woman and her 18-year-old boyfriend were hugging when she became uncomfortable with a gun in his waistband.
The man was in the process of removing the gun when it discharged and shot the woman.
Officials say the woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died.
Thompson said the shooting appears to be accidental but remains under investigation.
He said the case will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office for review.
