We're getting a clearer picture of the events leading up to a deadly police shooting in Phoenix Monday night.
Phoenix Police Chief Daniel Garcia announced the death of the Phoenix officer John Hobbs on Monday afternoon.
Garcia said Hobbs was a 21-year veteran of the police department.
Police say a second officer wounded in a shooting Monday has been released from the hospital.
Det. Albert "AJ" Casados, 37, is "expected to make a full recovery," said Garcia in a Wednesday afternoon news conference.
Sources say the two officers are part of a fugitive apprehension task force and had tracked a homicide suspect to 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road from a nearby neighborhood.
During that apprehension, a shooting apparently broke out, and the officers were shot. The suspect, William Thornton, was killed at the scene.
