PHOENIX - Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in downtown Phoenix Sunday night.
Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos said the victim was a Hispanic male in his early 20s.
The incident occurred near 3rd Avenue and Grant Street around 8:30 p.m.
Martos said when detectives arrived on scene, witnesses told police the victim was fighting with another man before he was shot.
During the course of their investigation, detectives were able to identify the shooting suspect as a 17-year-old man.
Martos said during an interview with the 17-year-old Monday morning, he admitted his involvement in the shooting.
Detectives learned there was an ongoing dispute between the victim and suspect. The argument escalated Sunday night and resulted in the victim's death.
The suspect was booked into the Juvenile Court Center on second degree murder charges.
Martos said the victim has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.
