Phoenix Police launches online crime reporting service

PHOENIX - The Phoenix Police Department is unveiling a new tool for reporting crimes online.

With the new service, residents can report instances of vehicle burglary, lost property, theft, criminal damage, identity theft, and other crimes online.

"I am extremely excited about this because it offers residents another tool to fight crime and it saves taxpayer dollars at the same time,"  says Phoenix Councilman Michael Nowakowski, chairman of the City Council Public Safety, Veterans, Transparency and Ethics subcommittee.

According to Councilwoman Thelda Williams, "This is cutting-edge, crime-fighting technology that will help protect residents and keep our neighborhoods safe."

Online crime reporting is expected to save the department close $1 million each year.

Phoenix police says residents should still use 911 for emergencies or any crimes that are in progress.
