PHOENIX - Officials are investigating a murder-suicide in a Phoenix neighborhood.
Phoenix police spokesman Tommy Thompson said the incident happened just after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road.
Authorities say 52-year-old Manuel Oliveras and Maryann Fernandez had been married under common law for nearly 30 years.
They say the couple was arguing in the bedroom this morning and Maryann called out to her brother for help.
Police say he broke the door down just in time to see Manuel shoot and kill his sister.
They say Manuel threatened him and then turned the gun on himself.
Family members tell ABC15 Maryann had seven kids and was a great mom.
She also had several grandchildren.
Police say this situation is always hard for families, but especially now during the holidays.
Family members are leaning on each other for support.
Police said they are still looking into whether the couple had a history of domestic violence.
They are unsure at this time what sparked the dispute.
