Phoenix police: 1 dead, 1 hurt in overnight shooting near Zipps Sports Grill

PHOENIX - Authorities say one person has died, and another injured, at a shooting outside a Phoenix sports bar.

Phoenix police Sgt. James Holmes said officers responded to the Zipps Sports Grill near 16th Street and Bethany Home Road shortly before midnight Friday after reports of a shooting.

Holmes said officers found two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

A 44-year-old man and a 32-year-old man were both transported to local hospitals, where the 32-year-old man later died, said Holmes.

Police identified the deceased man Saturday morning as Thomas Allen Marcussen.

Holmes said the investigation revealed that both victims were sitting on a bench nearby when a 29-year-old woman approached them and began shooting.

Police said a witness was able to grab and disarm the woman until authorities arrived. Holmes said police have not found a relationship between the victims and the suspect.

Holmes said the suspect showed signs of intoxication, however, no motive has been determined.

The condition of the 44-year-old is unknown.
