PHOENIX - A dad's bravery nearly cost him his life Tuesday night when he tried to save his pets from a raging house fire.
Officials say the fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. in the attic of a home near 51st Avenue and Thomas Road.
Phoenix Fire Captain Larry Nunez said the family got out safely and then realized three pets were still inside, so the dad went back in to save them.
Firefighters arrived on scene and searched the house for the man. They feared he was dead until 20 minutes later he came out of the house with all three pets. Fire officials say he was not injured.
Nunez said two of the pets are doing fine, the third is being treated by the Arizona Humane Society.
