Phoenix man accused of breaking jaw of girlfriend

PHOENIX - Bond is set at $50,000 for a Phoenix man accused of punching his girlfriend several times and leaving her with a broken jaw and nose.

Phoenix police say the 38-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder, kidnapping and aggravated assault.

The suspect had his initial court appearance Friday. He doesn't have a lawyer yet and is facing an April 7 preliminary hearing.

Police say neighbors reported hearing a man yelling death threats from inside an apartment and then saw a woman severe facial wounds telling for help.

Witnesses told police they saw the suspect allegedly grab the woman by her hair and pull her back inside.

Police say Corbin later told them the assault was in self-defense because the woman had pulled his hair.
