PHOENIX - Investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a house fire in Phoenix overnight.
When fire crews arrived in the neighborhood near 35th Avenue and Missouri around 2:15 a.m. they discovered the house was packed from wall to wall with furniture and garbage.
This made it extremely difficult and dangerous to fight, said a spokesman for the Phoenix fire department
Crews had to break windows to get inside because the doorways were blocked by furniture.
The spokesman said firefighters had to crawl over several feet of debris.
Heavy smoke was seen billowing from a hole in the roof.
Neighbors said the home has been abandoned for years, and just recently a relative had been cleaning up around the yard going through the contents.
Neighbors said in the past, teenagers broke into the backyard and started fires in garbage dumpsters.
