Phoenix firefighters plan to relieve Prescott crews so they can attend firefighters' memorial

PHOENIX - Twenty Phoenix firefighters are leaving town before sunrise so they can handle emergency calls for Prescott firefighters who want to attend Tuesday's memorial service .

"It's important that they go grieve," said Captain Mark Gonzales. "They know those guys."

Gonzales and his crew will spend 24 hours in Prescott responding to 911 calls, he said.

"It really makes you value everything in life," Gonzales told ABC15 referring to the fallen 19 Prescott firefighters from the Granite Mountain Hotshots. "It's a loss to all of us."

Several other agencies will also be assisting the Prescott Fire Department on Tuesday, as they have been since the Yarnell fire started.

You can watch the entire service live beginning at 11 a.m. on ABC15, and ABC15 Mobile, along with our special, kicking off at 10 a.m.
