Phoenix Fire: Man suffers smoke inhalation, burns to hands trying to fight fire with garden hose

PHOENIX - A fire official said a man suffered minor smoke inhalation and burns to his hands while trying to save his home after it caught fire Sunday evening.

Phoenix Fire Captain Ruben Saavedra said crews received multiple 911 calls regarding a house fire near Greenway and 36th Street.

He said crews arrived to find heavy fire coming out of the front door and windows. He also said firefighters had difficulty entering the home because there was a lot of furniture and other items that were also fueling the fire.

The homeowner suffered minor smoke inhalation and burns to his hands while trying to extinguish the fire with a garden hose. The man was transported to a local burn center.

No other details were immediately released.
