Court documents: Phoenix firefighter arrested after being found with 20 pounds of marijuana

PHOENIX - A member of the Phoenix Fire Department was arrested after officers allegedly found 20 pounds of marijuana in his possession.

Police reportedly had a search warrant for a home off the Carefree Highway and were watching the area Friday.

They observed Cary Cole at the home loading large trash bags into the back of his truck, according to court documents.

He was stopped a short time later and the officer reported smelling a strong marijuana odor coming from the truck.

The officer discovered approximately 20 pounds of marijuana inside the bags, according to court documents.

Paperwork states that Cole had just left a large grow operation.

The house is the home of Mitchell Austin Cole; a neighbor at Cary’s home identified the pair as brothers.

Cary is facing charges of possession and transport or sale of marijuana.

A man who answered the door at Cary’s home declined to comment; no one answered Mitchell’s door.

Phoenix Fire confirmed Cole's employment with the department and says they are currently working to gather more information from the arresting agencies on the incident.
