Phoenix fatal crash: 1 dead, 2 injured in Arizona crash

PHOENIX - One person is dead and two others are injured after an early morning crash in Phoenix.

Phoenix Police responded to an accident near 35th Avenue and west McDowell Road around 12:30 a.m., said James Holmes, spokesperson for the Phoenix Police Department.

Police have closed the intersection and are encouraging motorists to avoid the area, especially during the morning commute.

The driver of a Mercury Sable failed to stop at a red light and crashed into a GMC truck, Holmes said. The force of the crash caused the GMC truck to spin and hit a Mercury Grand Marque, which was being driven by a 22-year-old pregnant woman, according to police.

The driver of the GMC truck was ejected from his vehicle where he died from his injuries, police said.

The 22-year-old female was taken to the hospital for precautionary measure and is expected to be OK, police said.

The suspect was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to a local hospital in serious condition, police said.

Police suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash.
