The City of Phoenix is putting your tax dollars to work, as they pave a record number of roadway this year.

Drivers are seeing smoother city streets, all thanks to the voter-approved Transportation 2050 initiative.

Crews completed over 240 miles of pavement improvements in the past year, which is about four-times what they typically can do in a year. The long-term plan is to pave nearly 700 miles of Phoenix streets.

City leaders gathered this morning to celebrate the progress, and they say funding, good weather, and hard work made the paving possible.

“That will benefit neighborhoods, that will benefit small businesses, and it will benefit parents driving their kids to school every day,” says Mayor Greg Stanton. “To be a great city you’ve got to be a great transportation city.”

Pavement work for next year is scheduled to start up again in the spring and wrap up by next fall.
