Phoenix City Council discusses new budget plan

PHOENIX - The Phoenix City Council is voting on union contracts Wednesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, City Manager Ed Zuercher presented his budget to the council. It included: across the board pay concessions for city employees and an increase in fees for Phoenix residents.

The city needs to close an almost $38 million dollar gap.

Zuercher blames a number of issues for the massive deficit.

“Our expenses are up more than expected,” said Zuercher. “Our revenue has decreased due to the growth.”

Zuercher said the city also needed to do some investments that cost money.

The City Council is set to vote on the budget May 20th.
