PD: Woman dies in Phoenix hit-and-run

PHOENIX - Police say the owner of a car police were looking for in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident Sunday night has come forward.

Phoenix police spokesman Tommy Thompson said detectives are currently talking with the man and inspecting his car.

Police say a 41-year-old woman died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Phoenix. The crash happened around 5 p.m near 11th Street and Northern Avenue.

Thompson said the victim was walking on the sidewalk with her friend when she was struck from behind.

Thompson said after hitting the woman, the vehicle fled eastbound toward 12th Street without stopping.

Police said the victim died early Monday morning.

Officers said the victim's friend was not injured.

Witnesses at the scene were able to give a description of the suspect and his car to police.

The vehicle is described as a 1970s Fiat convertible, red in color with a black convertible top. The convertible top was down at the time of the collision. The vehicle should have extensive damage to the passenger side window frame area.
