A Phoenix woman is in the hospital after being hit by a random bullet while standing on her balcony.  And police say the person responsible is still out there.

"It was surreal," said apartment resident Joseph Aruda.

Phoenix police say the shooting happened early Tuesday morning at the Estancia del Sol apartments near 40th Avenue and Camelback.

Witnesses say someone was in the complex's courtyard waving a gun around firing in the air.

One of those bullets hit a woman who was smoking a cigarette on a 3rd floor balcony.

Officials say the woman was taken to the hospital with injuries to her leg and chest.

"What's scary is you know that could have been my fiancé sitting out there," said Aruda.

Police say they are having difficulty identifying a suspect because the victim isn't cooperating.

Neighbors say the incident has them considering a move.

"I have been here for over two years now and I'm looking to get out," said Chris Cherry.
