PD: Bicyclist dies after hit by 2 vehicles in Phoenix; both cars fled scene

PHOENIX - Phoenix police say two vehicles hit a bicyclist Friday night, and they both fled the scene.

According to Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos, officers were called out just before 9 p.m. to the area of 7th Street and Roeser for a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.

Officers then found the victim, 47-year-old Angel Hernandez-Sotelo, with severe lower body trauma. He died at the scene, Martos said.

Police learned that Hernandez-Sotelo was crossing the road mid-block on a bicycle at the time of the crash.

The first vehicle that hit the bicyclist was a Ford Taurus going northbound on 7th Street, Martos said.

That driver reportedly parked at a liquor store on the northeast corner of 7th Street and Roeser and ran away from the car.

Video from the scene showed the parked vehicle with a smashed windshield.

The Ford is a rental car, and investigators are following up on this information. The driver has not been identified or located as of 11:45 a.m. Saturday.

Police did not have any information on the second vehicle that struck the bicyclist.
