PHOENIX - Authorities say a 40-year-old pedestrian who laid down on a west Phoenix road died after he was struck by a vehicle.
Phoenix police say the pedestrian decided to lie down in a turning lane west of Interstate 17 around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
One vehicle had stopped for the pedestrian even though he wasn't in a crosswalk.
But the driver of another car couldn't see the pedestrian until it was too late and struck the man.
The 40-year-old man was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Police say they don't know why the pedestrian decided to lie down in the roadway.
