PHOENIX - A 53-year-old man was killed after being hit by a suspected drunken driver while crossing the street around 9 p.m.
Ruben Jimenez Solis was crossing 32nd Street mid-block near McDowell Road when he was hit by 66-year-old Vernon Traylor who was driving a Ford Mustang, according to Phoenix Police.
Traylor stopped after the crash, but fled the scene once officers showed up.
Witnesses told police officers that Traylor fled, and police were able to stop him soon after.
Solis was taken to the hospital when crews arrived, but died from his injuries.
Traylor was booked and processed as an impaired driver. Authorities believe he had been drinking alcohol at the time of the collision.
Police say he could face charges of DUI and leaving the scene of a deadly accident.
