PHOENIX - A pregnant Valley woman is fighting for her life after she was run over by a hit-and-run driver early Sunday.
Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump said the woman, who is four months pregnant, was breaking down a taco stand near 17th Avenue and Camelback Road with another woman when they were struck by a silver Dodge Charger around 2:30 a.m.
The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital and was taken into surgery, police said. Her official condition is unknown, but authorities said most of her injuries seemed to be internal.
Crump said the suspect accelerated through the parking lot, struck an occupied parked vehicle and fled the area.
A police officer was at a nearby intersection and was able to follow the driver of the silver Charger. A police helicopter picked up the chase and the driver was taken into custody near 33rd Avenue and Van Buren Street.
He was questioned by police and his blood alcohol content level was tested.
Impairment is suspected in the incident.
The manager of Bukkana's Bar told ABC15 the suspect had been inside the bar drinking before hitting the women.
