PHOENIX - A flight from Los Angeles to Miami was diverted to Phoenix on Thursday when a passenger became unruly, authorities said.
Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos said officers were told about the 21-year-old male passenger behaving erratically during an American Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Miami.
Due to his behavior, the flight crew decided to divert the plane and make an unscheduled landing at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.
Phoenix police officers boarded the plane and removed the passenger.
Based on what the flight crew and officers saw, the passenger was taken to an area hospital where he received medical attention.
Martos said it is unknown if the passenger’s erratic behavior was drug induced.
Officers have forwarded their report to the TSA.
Martos said the plane resumed its flight to Miami.
The passenger was not booked into jail so police will not release his name.
