PD: 3-year-old girl dies at Phoenix 'babysitting service'

PHOENIX - Police say a 3-year-old girl has died Tuesday morning after a "suspicious" incident in a Phoenix home where a couple ran a babysitting service.

According to Sgt. Trent Crump with Phoenix police, the incident happened around 7 a.m. near 45th Street and Sunland Avenue.

The girl was transported in extremely critical condition and died on the way to the hospital, Crump said.

Police weren't able to say what led to her death, but they are calling it "suspicious" and are treating it as a homicide.

The mother of the victim drops the girl off for days and weeks at a time without checking on her, Crump said.

According to Police, they were able to locate and contact the mother and father of the girl Tuesday afternoon.

Crump said there were five children at the home, and two of them were the couple's children.

The other children appear to be OK.

The couple ran the babysitting service through Craigslist, Crump said.

They are cooperating with police during the investigation.
