PHOENIX - Two people suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash in Central Phoenix overnight.
Phoenix police say the accident happened just after 2 a.m. at 16th Street and Camelback Road where a vehicle traveling westbound on Camelback left the roadway for an unknown reason and hit a signal light pole on the northwest corner.
Police say the 24-year-old male driver had not been wearing a seatbelt and was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. Police were not certain he would survive.
The 25-year-old female passenger was properly restrained and while she suffered serious injuries, she is expected to survive.
Vehicular crimes detectives found indications that both the passenger and the driver may have been impaired by alcohol at the time of the crash. They are awaiting toxicology reports.
