PD: 14 Valley stores robbed for cigarettes

PHOENIX - Silent Witness is offering up to $1,000 for information about a string of Valley robberies at Circle K and Walgreens stores.

Phoenix police Sgt. Darren Burch said two men have robbed at least 14 stores across Phoenix in just more than a month.

They steal cigarettes, but Burch said more recently they have gotten away with cash from the register.

Burch said the suspects are getting more brave and aggressive with each hit and are believed to be selling the cigarettes on the black market.

Burch said one of the suspects told a clerk he does it for a living.

Surveillance video shows the suspects as they walk into a store, then one of the men grabs cartons of cigarettes and puts them into a bag.

A woman, who appears to be the clerk, steps in and reaches for the bag, but he pushes her into the display case and continues to grab more cartons.

The video gives police a good description of the suspects.

Officers are looking for two men, one a light skinned black or Hispanic male who's between 20 and 30 years old and about 5 feet 11 inches tall.

The other, a black male who's about the same height and wears glasses.

The suspects have been seen in a red, 2-door, newer car or a 4-door, blue Jeep.
