PHOENIX - Officials are investigating after a deadly single-vehicle rollover in Phoenix.
The rollover happened near 52nd Street and McDowell Road just after midnight on Thursday.
Police said 64-year-old Howard Laporte was driving when his tire separated on one of this rear tires causing his vehicle to roll over. The tire did not blow out, but it is believed Laporte applied the brakes and over corrected, which caused him to crash into a mountainside.
Laporte was ejected from the vehicle, he was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.
Three nurses who were in the area at the time stopped to help the victim, he later died at a hospital due to his injuries.
McDowell Road was closed for several hours on Thursday morning while officials completed their investigation.
Officials are working to determine if impairment was a factor.
