PD: Parks and Recreation employee accused of sexual abuse

PHOENIX - Phoenix police have arrested a Parks and Recreation employee who is accused of sexually abusing three boys.

Sgt. Steve Martos said on March 29 and 30, the Phoenix Police Child Crimes Detectives began investigating 42-year-old Arthur Rey Juarez for alleged criminal activity.

The activity was believed to have occurred between 1995 and 1998.

Martos said the victims reported the crimes in 2001, but they were unsure if they desired prosecution so the case was closed.

In 2013, the case was reviewed and the victims were re-contacted and expressed their desire to pursue charges.

Martos said the victims disclosed acts with Juarez that amounted to sexual conduct with a minor, molestation of a child, and sexual abuse.

Juarez was arrested by Phoenix police on March 30.

Juarez was working as a Parks and Recreation employee and had scheduled activity with children on Easter Sunday.

Once Juarez was in custody, he admitted to his involvement in the crimes.

"This is not the type of investigations we conduct. It hits the heart of our officers and we are going back looking at every case making sure nothing is missed," said Phoenix Police Chief Daniel Garcia.

The victims that came forward are all Hispanic males who were 13, 14, and 15 years old at the time of the occurrence.

Due to Juarez's employment and access to children, Child Crimes detectives are asking anyone who has information related to the suspect to contact Phoenix police at 602-262-4543.
