Motorcyclist killed in Phoenix crash

PHOENIX - A motorcyclist has died after an early morning crash in Phoenix.

Phoenix police say the collision between the motorcyclist and a Ford Explorer happened around 2 a.m. at Buckeye Road and 13th Avenue.

Police say the Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling westbound on Buckeye Road when it collided with the SUV traveling south on 13th Avenue.

The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, according to police, but he sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was identified as 56-year-old Eric Blackwell.

The 40-year-old female driver of the SUV was not injured.

Police say impairment is suspect of both drivers. They say the driver of the SUV showed signs and symptoms of alcohol impairment. She was released pending the outcome of the toxicology report.

There was no word on whether that driver will face charges.

The investigation continues into whether speed and/or failure to yield were factors in the accident.
