Michael Crane pleads not guilty in Paradise Valley murder case

PHOENIX - A Mesa man charged in the killings of a Paradise Valley couple pleaded not guilty Monday during his arraignment.

Michael Crane is facing several charges, including-first degree murder and arson, for the deaths of Lawrence and Glenna Shapiro .

The Maricopa County Superior Court says Crane will be evaluated for mental competency. His next court date is pending an evaluation.

Crane is also facing murder charges for the death of cigar shop owner Bruce Gaudet.

Crane appeared Monday in person for his arraignment. Last week, Crane refused to show and a court commissioner ordered the 31-year-old brought to court "by any reasonable means necessary" for his arraignment.
