MCSO looking for pickup truck driver who hit a group of bicyclists Saturday night

PHOENIX - A hit-and-run accident is under investigation through the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office after a group of bicyclists were hit late Saturday night.

According to MCSO, three bicyclists were walking their bikes on the dirt shoulder of the road on 115th Avenue south of Happy Valley Road when they were struck around 10 p.m.

Sunday night, MCSO identified the victims as Cam Nelson, Nelson's 6-year-old son and Lance Taylor.

Nelson was air-lifted to a Valley hospital with life-threatening injuries. Nelson's son and Taylor were taken to the hospital for treatment and later released.

The vehicle, described as a newer Chevrolet or GMC pickup truck, did not stop after the collision and fled the scene.

There is no description of the suspect inside the truck or a license plate number at this time.

The vehicle in question is likely a 2014-2015 Chevrolet or GMC 1/2-ton pickup truck with a body style similar to the one pictured.

The collision caused damage to the passenger side of the vehicle and reportedly broke the right headlight and turn-signal assembly. The right side of the hood and the right grill or bumper may also be damaged.
