MCSO: Inmate, Arryck Blanton, faces aggravated assault charges after punching detention officer

PHOENIX - An inmate has been placed on a bread and water diet at an Arizona jail after allegedly assaulting a detention officer, according to MCSO officials.

MCSO Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Arryck Blanton, a suspect connected to a home invasion, punched a detention officer Sunday evening at least 4 times while being escorted back to his cell at the Lower Buckeye Jail.

Blanton was tased and subdued by another detention officer. He was taken to the Fourth Avenue Jail and now faces aggravated assault charges, a class 3 felony.

He has also been placed on the Sheriff's bread and water program.

The injured detention officer was taken to a local hospital with a broken nose. He is currently on leave and recovering according to MCSO.
