PHOENIX - Federal and local officials seized nearly one ton of marijuana, weapons and $66,000 in cash from a narcotics operation run by a Mexican drug cartel, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Seven people were arrested during the multi-agency operation on Tuesday, June 10 after finding 1,710 pounds of marijuana, 15 weapons, cash and vehicles from six different locations that were working as cells under the direction of Mexican drug traffickers, according to MCSO.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Drug Enforcement Administration and MCSO collaborated in the investigation.
Officials said the six locations were being used both as residences and stash houses.
“All the narcotics seized and all the high velocity fire power points to the fact that this enterprise is a very dangerous group of drug traffickers operating in our community,” said Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
All seven suspects will face a grand jury next week.
