Marilyn Hartman update: Plane stowaway arrested in Phoenix says she's ill

PHOENIX - The serial stowaway arrested at Sky Harbor admits to trying to sneak into numerous airports on the West Coast.

62-year-old Marilyn Hartman told ABC 15 she is homeless and has no family or friends.

Hartman has tried to sneak past airport security in San Francisco, San Jose, LAX and Sky Harbor.

When asked about her bizarre behavior – Hartman cited numerous reasons: she wanted to prove a point, she had a story about a former employer and she claims to suffer from an unrecognized mental illness.

As far as why she tries to board airplanes without a ticket, she told us she suffers from “Whistleblower Trauma Syndrome,” and thought, if she was arrested, it would give her an opportunity to discuss publicly a situation that happened years ago.

“The security is excellent at the airport. I do support my government. But, what happened to me has to do with corruption in an isolated instance,” she told us.

MCSO says Hartman was initially screened when booked into Estrella Jail. However, it’s unclear if a mental evaluation has been done at this time.

Hartman claims she hasn’t had a full mental evaluation in a year.
