PHOENIX - Maricopa County's hiking trails cover hundreds of miles and provide some beautiful views of Arizona and the downtown Phoenix skyline.
It also takes lots of hard work to maintain those trails. It's a resource that is beyond limited.
One park director has one employee to maintain 376 miles of terrain covered by rock, cactus and wildlife. Maricopa is now hoping volunteers will be able to assist with trail maintenance.
The maintenance is pretty basic. Volunteers would assist with picking up trail, moving loose rocks and alerting officials to significant damage along the trail. It could even be something that hikers do at the same time they're exploring.
