PHOENIX - Security experts have been hired after someone allegedly hacked into Maricopa Community College's website.
Tom Gariepy, spokesperson for Maricopa Community Colleges, said the homepage for the college, Maricopa.edu, was illegally accessed on May 14.
Now officials are investigating a suspicious piece of malware that was found on May 15 that had the capability to infect the college's other websites, according to school officials.
There is no evidence that student, faculty or security data was accessed, said Gariepy.
Officials took down the main website and have replaced it with a temporary one, which could have some "limited functionality," said Gariepy. Students can still access their information at my.maricopa.edu.
They hope to have the main site restored, but a time frame for when it will be back up was not known.
