Man arrested after hitting a woman on a small motorcycle in Phoenix

PHOENIX - A 29-year-old man is facing hit and run charges after he allegedly hit a woman on a small motorcycle in Phoenix on Friday.

Phoenix police say 29-year-old James Edward Bellinger was traveling southbound on 19th Avenue when he crashed into a 37-year-old woman on a small motorcycle on Las Palmaritas Road around 10:14 a.m.

According to police, Bellinger did not stop at the scene and drove to the 2500 block of Northern Ave where he got out of his car. A witness noticed Bellinger's odd actions when he got out of his car and called police.

When police saw Bellinger they realized he was the suspect from the accident and took him into custody without incident.

Police say Bellinger showed clinical indications of drug use at the scene.

The 37-year-old woman was transported the hospital in extremely critical condition, and she is not expected to survive her injuries.

Bellinger has been booking into Maricopa County Jail and is being charged with Aggravated DUI, aggravated assault, and one count of hit and run with serious injuries.
