PHOENIX - A man has been ordered jailed until his trial on a charge that he fatally shot a police officer in metro Phoenix during a traffic stop.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Bridget Bade ruled Tuesday that Elijah Loren Arthur shouldn't be released from jail because he posed a danger to the community and is at risk to flee from authorities.
Arthur is charged in the May 24 death of Officer Jair Cabrera of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community's police department.
Cabrera was shot at a convenience store where the stop was made.
Investigators say Arthur acknowledged shooting at the store's gas pumps but said he didn't intend to shoot Cabrera.
Arthur's attorney didn't argue for her client's release and noted he had an outstanding warrant for an unspecified charge.
