PHOENIX - Authorities are investigating after two malnourished dogs were found outside a Phoenix church Monday morning.
The dogs were found around 8:30 a.m. at the Phoenix Gospel Hall near 13th and Garfield streets.
The male and female pit bull mix pups were found tied up to a chain link fence outside the church.
The female dog is believed to be around one-and-a-half years old, and the male is approximately three years old.
Officials said the dogs appeared to be at least 20 pounds underweight.
The Arizona Humane Society is now caring for the dogs.
Humane Society spokeswoman Bretta Nelson said they will most likely be placed on a strict feeding schedule for weight gain and held on a 72-hour stray period to see if an owner comes forward.
Nelson said the pups are not microchipped and had no form of identification.
Police are still investigating who's responsible.
